Billie Holiday

Stephanie included Billie in her “Thrush Hour” CD tribute to the Great Jazz Ladies and it attracted the attention of Irv Kratka, the owner of the Inner City and Classic Jazz record labels. He hired Stephanie to record a tribute CD to Billie featuring the music recorded by her in her 1935 and 1937 recording dates with music legends like Teddy Wilson, Roy Eldridge, Ben Webster and Johnny Hodges.

The CD is entitled “Billie Remembered” featureing jazz greats Harry Allen, Randy Sandke, Marty Grosz and others, and was praised by the Village Voice, stating “We can all name albums on which retracing the footsteps of giants, though they risk sinking in them, yields deeply satisfying results, and though Carmen McRae’s 1962 Lover Man, which caught both Holiday’s ups and downs, will forever remain the gold standard, Billie Remembered joins it near the top of the list.“

This early music of Billie's was the most 'happy', bouncy and swinging time of her career and resulted in amazing songs and recordings.  Stephanie's CD was also used to make a sing-along Karaoke CD on the PocketSongs label.
