Take a journey with Stephanie Nakasian .....begin with optimistic love, wind through heartbreak and dissolution, to return to hope in a carefully selected span of songs paralleling the global malaise that has begun to stimulate innovative changes throughout the world in promise of a brighter future. In complete synchronicity with master improvisational pianist Harris Simon, Stephanie dynamically breaks the guidelines of bar-lines and rhythms from her traditional swing and bebop roots with exuberant poly rhythms and exotic harmonies. You will be transformed as Stephanie masterfully “shows the way” in a voice that is fresh and expressively invigorating! Known as one of the world’s leading jazz singers, Stephanie Nakasian will take you on a melodic voyage, fresh and authentic that transcends the Great Ladies of Song in both tribute and originality.
The band backing up Stephanie includes Hod O’Brien on piano, Randy Sandke on trumpet, Tom Hamilton on tenor, John Jensen on trombone, Hovie Collins on rhythm guitar, Steve Gilmore on bass and Bill Goodwin on drums. The arrangements attempt to approximate the originals and were prepared by Hod O’Brien and Stephanie. The booklet contains descriptions of each selection with an explanation of some of the techniques used by each vocalist whose style is being interpreted. More than anything else, this CD further reveals the wide range of technique that Stephanie Nakasian is capable of. To a great extent, she captures the feeling and manner of each of the great vocalists that she has chosen to present.

"Breathing Room" is a collection of 50 of these short stories, delightful and inspiring and full of colorful and humorous cartoon-like illustrations.
From stories of students overcoming past 'ghosts' of people telling them they could not sing, to issues with control and mechanical thinking that interfered with claiming their personal freedom of expression, "Breathing Room" covers a variety of topics illustrating how learning to sing can invoke profound life changes.
Read how Stephanie's students found their real voice as they tackled, leaving home for the first time, choosing their right range, unlearning pop and choir dictates to connect with their naturally organic individual sound, getting through divorce, alcoholism, anorexia and so much more.
Stephanie Nakasian's "Breathing Room" is for everyone – singers and listeners alike!
Why this book works: Often we singers get in our own way by thinking too much, trying too hard and by making things too complicated.
This method works for all styles of music - pop, theater, jazz, rock, R&B, gospel and classical. This book simplifies the approach to naturally open and powerful singing and, through the process of letting go, you, the singer - will discover much of what you want from your voice:
• More naturally powerful, consistent, open, beautiful sound and tone • Improved/extended range • Improved pitch accuracy • More breath at your command and more efficient use of breath • Improved ability to transition through break areas with less effort and without loss of tone • More flexibility with which to do more with your voice • More freedom and confidence for free expression through your singing • Exercises which you can directly apply to your songs and to specific problem areas
Packed full of productive and easy exercises, visualizations, cartoons and illustrations to help simplify the thought process and therefore the singer’s approach to technique. This book has helped hundreds, even thousands of students! Humor, Simplicity, Results!
Hundreds of singers and teachers have learned to sing and swing with Stephanie Nakasian’s basic approach. The manual includes a CD exercises.
This is a karaoke version of Stephanie’s “Thrush Hour” CD in tribute to 20 singers. There are ½ the tracks of that cd on this volume and ½ are on vol 2 below. Part of the CD is with Stephanie singing and the other is without so you can sing with her band. Lyrics are included.

Stories about the Jazz Life, by Hod O'Brien.
“This book is not intended to be a strictly biographical text, but, rather a collection of funny, little incidents and stories I’ve witnessed and heard along my way, on my path as a freelance jazz musician over the past 60 years of my professional life.
It’s intended mostly for fans of mine, whomever and wherever you all are, and fellow musicians, who might be interested in hearing a little bit more about me from another perspective, rather than from just my music and recordings alone. . . . The jazz community is a small, but hip part of the world, of which I’m happy and proud to be a member, and to whom I wish to express my deep gratitude — to those of you in it and interested in my work.”
This is Hod's first solo release (recorded June 15-18 2009 on Philology W442.2). It features tunes associated with the repertoire of Chet Baker, including such signature tunes as Let's Get Lost, Line for Lyons, and one of his most requested ones My Funny Valentine.
